WIZARD:

The problem with western civilization
today is that the people here know
everything and understand nothing at all.

You see its one thing to know a list of
facts and quite another to understand
what they mean, and especially, what they
mean to us.

For example, did you ever hear the old
expression "you just had to be there" ?

BRUCE:

Sure, but what's that got to do with us?

WIZARD:

It has to do with you because that is what
an initiatory rite is about. People have
been learning that way for thousands of
years, until fairly recently, that is.

BRUCE:

An initiatory ritual!

WIZARD:

Yes, it is a ritual drama of some sort in
which the initiate himself plays a part
and because he was in it himself, it is not
just a list of facts to him afterwards. It
is an event, a part of his life.

CAROL:

Well, I guess that's OK, but like Bruce says,
what's it got to do with us?

WIZARD:

You want to make a film don't you?

CAROL:

Well sure...

WIZARD:

Then you've got to be initiated and that
will be two bucks...apiece.
